Build a chord on the keyboard and see its name, or pick a chord and see it on the keys

Click keys on the keyboard below to build a chord — one key shows the note name, two keys show the interval between them, and three or more show the chord name, including inversions (using the same "1st inversion" / "2nd inversion" terms your teacher uses). Once a chord is showing, use the arrows either side of the display to step through its inversions.

Prefer to work the other way round? Use the Root note and Chord quality buttons below the keyboard to pick a chord by name and see exactly which keys make it up, voiced in root position.

Want to sketch a progression? Pick a key and scale under Scale Degree Chords, then click a Roman numeral — I, IV, V and so on — to load that chord straight onto the keyboard. Save each one into the two-bar Chord Progression panel on the right to hear how they follow each other.
