Adrift
Originally written in 2006, Adrift is an early, unguarded plea for guidance — a life that seemed set on a clear course, only to find the path far harder than expected. Companionship, family, and the pressures that come with them all pass through its three verses, each one circling back to the same raw admission: sometimes the strength to carry on has to be borrowed from someone else.
Revisited nearly two decades later for Second Sight, its honesty about needing help still lands with the same weight it did the day it was written.

Sonus Lucis — Adrift
Verse 1
Set adrift when I was young,
And sent into the fire.
I believed that I could steer a course,
To a long and happy life.
Reality, it showed me how,
The path was harder still.
Easy life as such is just illusion.
And I haven't found a way to make it real.
Chorus
And I've cried 'Help me!',
I need someone close.
A friend to guide me through the worst.
Don't tell me that I haven't a hope in hell.
Verse 2
It seemed to me the road was clear.
Companionship as one.
To build a life, a loving home,
And offspring comes along.
It happened then, an angel child
Completes the picture but,
The changes were a pressure,
Much too much for us to bear.
It was the turning point that changed me but my dreams, I still hold dear.
Chorus
Oh 'Help me!',
I need someone close.
A friend to guide me through the worst.
Don't tell me that I haven't a hope in hell.
No-oh
Verse 3
Still adrift but not so young,
Burned by all the fire.
Forward lies a question mark,
Not sure where life will go.
With the way ahead uncertain,
And other's faith misplaced.
There's no guiding light, no signs for me to follow.
And I cannot summon strength when I'm in need.
Chorus
So I cry 'Help me!',
I need someone close.
A friend to guide me through the worst.
Don't tell me that I haven't a hope in hell.
Outro
Oh a friend to guide me through the worst.
Don't tell me that I haven't a hope in hell.
