Exit Box

Track 10 · First Light

Exit Box is the most emotionally challenging piece on First Light, and perhaps the most important. Written in September 2025, it places the listener inside a moment of absolute crisis — a countdown that forces a choice between darkness and the possibility of something more.

The song's structure is its strength — three minutes becoming two becoming one, the clock creating unbearable tension while the lyrics argue quietly but persistently for life. The recurring choice — “press red for dead, press green for no” — is simple, stark and unforgettable.

This is not a song that romanticises darkness. It is a song that understands it, sits with it, and then reaches through it toward something better. A brave and necessary piece of work.

Sonus Lucis — Exit Box

Step into the box
Three minutes decides
Steel walls hide the sound
Where silence now resides

Flick the switch to end
One instant and you're gone
A painless escape
The countdown has begun!

Three minutes left for making the choice
A breath to be heard, a chance for a voice
The silence is heavy, the seconds run slow
Press red for dead, press green for no

The shadows press close
The seconds crawl like years
A weight on your chest
Your eyes are filled with tears

But outside awaits
The light and open skies
A hand you can hold
A world where hope still lies

Two minutes left, the clock hands spin
A battle is raging, but hope can still win
The weight starts to shift, the darkness says go
Press red for dead, press green for no

Though life can be cruel, just bend but don't break
Each fall that you face can show what path to take
The bravest of roads, the hardest to know
With seconds left ticking, choose courage to grow

One minute left, the silence so loud
The fear in your chest, the pull of the shroud
But one breath can rise, can still overthrow
Press red for dead, press green for no

Ten seconds left, a chance after all
A life on the edge, the final call
Your heartbeat is screaming, it won't let you go
Press red for dead, press green for no — oh-oh
oh-oh
(Press green for no)
oh-oh
(Press green for no)
